As a Brussels-based journalist, global sounds activist, radiomaker, DJ and photographer, I’ve been specialising in music from around the globe since 2005 for several Belgian and Dutch newspapers and magazines. I’ve got a clear penchant for African music – from the mother continent and the Diaspora – and for world fusion/crossover.
I write about world music & cultures, always looking for artists who have interesting things to say. That’s why afrobeat is my favorite music: it’s outspoken and very danceable.
I like to call myself a mestizo (half-breed) having a Flemish mother and French-speaking father from Brussels, making me a half-Nordic, half-Latin hybrid. You can call me Afroviking, but that Afro-part is self-proclaimed, although you can find some of it in my curly hair…
On my weekly program Radio Mukambo on the webradio Groovalizacion.com, I only have one goal: to prove that WORLD MUSIC IS COOL! Radio Mukambo immerses you into global roots from the Urb’n’Jungle: afrobeat, ethiogrooves, Afro-Latin, manguebeat, reggae, world fusion, global hiphop...
I’m also known as DJ Mukambo, Africanizing and groovalizing nightlife with great Afro grooves that will make y’all dance the whole nite round!
