Sierra Maestra, a mountain range in the southeast of Cuba is a pivotal enclave for the Caribbean Music. The Cuban "Son"- this hundred year old rhythm who reached universal popularity - originated from that area. In a desire to inject new life into the artistic tradition of their island, nine engineering students decided to form "Sierra Maestra", a band largely responsible for the impressive success of this musical style. Their continued activity since 1976 has rejuvenated the musical scene and the ten songs contained in this record is packed with enough flavors to bring back the dead on the dancefloor. In fact, the death of two original members, José Antonio “Maceo” Rodríguez and Carlos González Cardenas, hasn’t stopped the band proving the exciting quality of their repertoire.
This repertoire written by reknown composers, including four songs from Erden Hernández and has all the musical ingredients that contributed to the success of the legendary "Los Van Van " or "Buena Vista Social Club". Following "Criolla Carabali" and "El Viaje a la Semilla", the album "Sonando Ya" is an other step foward in the history of Sierra Maestra.
