Sahelsounds is an ethnographic project exploring the sounds of the Western Sahel. Inspired by independent musicologists such as Alan Lomax and Hugh Tracey, Christopher Kirkley has been living and travelling in places of interest, recording popular bands, griot ceremonies, stories and interviews. This compilation recorded between between 2009 and 2010, focuses mainly of the musical genius of Tamashek, Hassiniya Moor, Sonrai and the Peul language of the Fouta Toro region.
A little compilation of field recordings available for download and for your greater enjoyment. Bismillah.
