Our global village has helped bond cultures which roots are sometimes thousands of kilometers apart. What has happened in London with the nu-asian movement and New-York with afrobeat is now occurring in Berlin with a surge in modern Latin music. This great multicultural alternative city has recently given birth to one of the most avant-garde, cumbia inspired, Andean/Caribbean flavored movements, equally creative as the music scenes of Buenos-Aires or Mexico City.
And Pachazonica is at the heart of this movement. This project, instigated by Intiche from Argentina and Spanish singer Sirena, merges Latin, gypsy music, oriental sounds and electro propped up by rebellious protest lyrics. This month they will be playing in Spain as a sound system to present their first demo album that is greatly influenced by bands such as Imperio Diablo, Watcha Clan, Radio Bemba, Bomba Estéreo, Asian Dub Foundation, La Kinki Beat and Nomad Sound System. Let’s also point out the collaboration of producer/DJ el Hijo de la Cumbia on some of the tracks.
