Dublin Tropical is having its first birthday and to celebrate the anniversary of what has become the hippest night in town, Radio Groovalizacion is throwing a one-of-a-kind event at Twisted Pepper featuring a world-class line-up :

The past decade has seen a dramatic surge of interest in ethnic rhythms. A lot of local urban music genres have recently been folded into a globalized electronic music and largely reused by contemporary hotshots like MIA, Diplo, Buraka Som Sistema, Bonde do Role, Vampire Weekend and The Very Best. They all draw their inspiration from afro-pop to bhangra, from Balkan beats to baile funk or digital cumbia.
In Argentina it is the sound of Cumbia that has spread extensively across the poorer districts of the country. This snail-paced 4/4 beat originated from Colombia is sometimes seen as the missing link between tropical salsa and Caribbean reggae and has recently undergone innovative changes emanating from Buenos Aires. Argentina-based producers have been combining cumbia with genres like house, dancehall, hyphy and dubstep. This latest form of cumbia has been labelled nueva cumbia and the club at the centre of this new movement is Zizek. The label and collective from Buenos Aires explores urban, global sounds with electronic music productions to blend the old with the new, fusing ideas, mashing continents and maximizing technology to bring Latin American music into the 21st Century. Since exploding on the scene in 2008 with their first compilation ZZK Vol.1 – Cumbia digital, the label has put out numerous LPs, EPs, mixtapes and played more than a 100 shows in 50 cities over 2 years including SXSW, Coachella, Roskilde, Trans Musicales and other prestigious festivals around the world. “I suggest you go see Zizek if you are ever in Buenos Aires, It’s a Movement!” says DJ and producer Diplo. But no need to travel to Argentina this summer as ZZK brings 3 of its artists up north for a summer tour around Europe. Bass-loving rap duo Fauna, cutting-edge digital cumbia DJ El Remolon & ZZK co-founder and DJ El G will have their heart set on bringing the best vanguard sound of Buenos Aires to Dublin.

From the other side of the American continent, Uproot Andy, a Brooklyn based DJ and producer, is making melodic and bass heavy music for the dance hall inspired by the various musical traditions that abound in New York. Co- founder of the NYC tropical dance party Que Bajo, Andy is also a regular at the Dutty Artz label’s NY Tropical parties, as well as a weekly resident at the Balkan gypsy club Mehanata Bulgarian Bar. As a DJ he has shared bills with such renowned artists as Diplo and Switch of Major Lazer, Maluca, Toy Selectah, 77 Klash, Radioclit, The Very Best, and the Trouble & Bass collective. His Guacharaca Migration mix was called ’one of the best mixtapes of 2008 by New York Magazine.

Dublin-based DJ iZem and T-Woc will join forces with these heavyweights throwing cutting edge heavy bass and a whole range of sounds from dubstep to digital reggae and Latin influenced riddims, which have made them the finest global bass DJs in Dublin.
Organized by the Groovalizacion iRadio crew, Dublin Tropical has established itself as a must go for any aficionados of Global Urban Beats and vanguard grooves. Dublin Tropical has its official residency at Shebeen Chic, which has regularly been reported by the press as the hottest dance floor in town.
